PRESS: Russia Q1 Huawei, Honor phone imports plunge to almost none
MOSCOW, Apr 28 (PRIME) -- Supplies of Huawei and Honor smartphones to Russia plunged to just 1.3% and 2% of the market respectively in January–March from 38% they had together a year earlier because of the U.S. sanctions and deficit of components, business daily Kommersant reported on Wednesday, quoting a report by researcher GS Group.
The country imported 264,000 smartphones of Huawei and Honor, the brand that belonged to Huawei till November 2020, against 3 million devices a year earlier, according to GS Group.
It said that the country imported 10.3 million mobile phones in total in January–March, down 0.4% on the year. Samsung accounted for 33.5%, Xiaomi 26%, and Apple 15%.
Honor sales dropped to 9% from 13% a year earlier in units and to 5% from 7% in money terms in January–March. Huawei sales fell to 3% from 4% in units and to 2% from 3% in money terms.
The companies’ problems started in May 2019 when the then-U.S. President Donald Trump signed a decree blocking the purchase of equipment threatening national security.
